Differing views on Society and Government between Hobbes and Lock
When reading Hobbes it is apparent that he believes society can only exist where there is government, meaning that if the government falls so does society. However Locke clearly believes that society exists beside and apart from government, so if a government is dissolved the society can remain in relative stability. We can clearly see examples of Locke's view in the world today, where governments were dissolved and replaced, with the society mostly unaffected, Tunisia for instance. This makes me wonder, are there any examples at all where Hobbes was correct? Can you think of any situation where a society fell apart due to their government dissolving?
