Frederick Nietzsche.
The only thing more difficult than the spelling of his name is the pronunciation of his name. But seriously Folks, how about the deadening of life in the weak? Nietzsche claims that the ascetic ideal allows priests the 'supreme license of power' with which to exercise over the weak who are physiologically deformed. This deformation comes from many things, some of which I think are ridiculous, others which I think have merit. Side stepping those items though, continuing on to his strategies for anesthetizing the pain of the weak through methods that can make one sicker or will not be detrimental to ones health, although not actually helping with the problem. (Sort of like applying a band-aid to the forehead of a patient with pneumonia.) This ideal of the ascetic takes its most noble form in science, not religion. Science acts as a mask that allows its followers to prescribe to its methodology but doesn't see themselves as suffering from anything. This only refutes the religious implications of dogma and doctrine and replaces it with science as the self-contemptuous form of man. Do you agree with him? Is science just another opiate of the masses?
